“الكاتب (مذاق الصبر) مهندس في شركة نفط، تعرض لحادث سير مفجع أثناء توجهه إلى عمله في الصحراء العمانية؛وإذا به كما يقول : “”وجدت نفسي فجأة أعيش في عالم تحكمه قوانين الإعاقة،وأنا ما زلت أفكر بعقلية الشخص السليم الجسد،القادر على الحركة والفعل.””
هذه الحادثة قلبت موازين حياته رأسا على عقب ،وشتّت آماله، وبعثرت أحلامه… “”لا أحد يختار بمحض إرادته أن يصبح معاقا، أو أن يبدو مختلفا في تركيبه الجسدي ولكن على غرار معظم الأشياء في الحياة، هناك دائما وجه آخر للعملة، فلماذا لا نبحث عنه لعلنا نجد فيه ما لم نجده في الوجه الأول !””
صورته كمعاق لا عمل له ولا مورد مادي غير ما يجود به المحسنون تثير في نفسه انكساراً بغيضاً، و صورة زائر يخرج من جيبه بضعة ريالاتٍ يدسها تحت وسادته و هو يهم بالمغادرة ؛ تجعله يتلظّى بنار الموقف و يتجرع مرارته قبل أن يحدث.
هذه الصور و غيرها جعلت الكاتب يتشبث بالحياة لإثبات نفسه و محاولة تغيير نظرة المجتمع المتمثلة بالشفقة – ظناً منهم أن المعاق معاقٌ بجسمه وعقله مما يؤدي إلى جرح كبريائه – إلى الاعتراف بقدرته كإنسانِ عادي قادرِ على الوجود و الفعل.
The following is translated from a review of “A Taste of Patience”:
The writer is a survivor of an accident that altered his life. He is a man who managed to overcome adversity and transform bitterness into personal success, as his literary gains outweighed his physical restrictions. Where his physical condition limited his movements, his creative writing opened up a new horizon that enabled him to freely interact with his readers.
This is a real-life account of how a human being can overcome obstacles, giving effect to the epithet: ‘What does not kill me makes me stronger.’ The autobiography defines patience in two ways: first, as a bitter experience and then second, as the ability to tolerate and turn one’s misfortune into investment.
